What is a B22 Light Bulb?

B22 light bulbs, sometimes known as BC bulbs, are light bulbs that use a traditional push-and-twist fitting. It has two “mounts” on both sides of the bulbs, which is known as a bayonet fitting - the most common light fitting in the UK. As they have a bayonet fitting, you may see B22 bulbs referred to as B22 bayonet bulbs. They can be commonly confused for B15 bulbs, which are smaller at 15mm vs 22mm for the B22. LED B22 bulbs are identical to standard B22 bulbs but have a higher energy-saving potential. In fact, they can reduce energy consumption by about 90%.

How Do You Remove and Install a B22 bulb?

B22 LED bulbs are incredibly easy to remove and install, and you won’t need an electrician. You can install your B22 bulb in four simple steps: Turn off the power - the safest way to do this is to turn the red power button off on your fuse box. Allow the current bulb to cool to avoid burning yourself. Remove the old bulb. For bayonet mounts, grab the bulb gently and push upwards. Slowly turn the bulb anticlockwise to release it from the socket. Replace with your new B22 bulb. Do this by pushing the replacement bulb into the socket and turning it clockwise until it locks in place. You should ensure the bulbs have the same wattage and avoid putting your fingers into the socket. After this, you can restore the power to test if the light turns on.
